"My concept of Spirit Medicine is that it is a friendship, a sacred bond, a sincere partnership between beings.  So, then Tree Spirit Medicine is the friendship, sacred bond and sincere partnership between tree beings and human beings.  I feel that this is an ancient partnership ~ one that is quite abandoned in the present day, but not wholly forgotten.  Trees are the guardians and holders of this ancient bond, and it is through their willingness and unrelenting patience with humans that our sacred connection will be re-established.  This book also explores the medicinal properties, ethno-botany, traditional folklore and spirit medicine of these trees."

This class is an introduction to local Trees ~ guardians of our communities and considered the elders of the botanical world.  Trees  not only provide cooling shade in summer, they help replenish the oxygen that gives us breath, they enhance the beauty of our landscaped lawns, they provide a dwelling for various birds, squirrels and insects and they protect and enrich the soil.  Trees add significance to our lives in many and varying ways:  they are continuously giving and can enhance our lives with their spiritual medicine as well as our health by sharing their medicinal leaves, flowers, fruit, seeds and bark. 

This is a hands-on class, so in addition to learning basic tree identification skills, come and learn about the healing characteristics of the trees that make their home in our yards, local parks and neighborhoods.

Started by Alana Lea, who has been called a “a real world Lorax“, she discovered that planting trees in the rainforest where she was born, was the easiest way she could find to back her beliefs with her money. So she started doing just that: planting trees in the Atlantic Rainforest of Brazil, with the help of the people whose faces you can see and read about on her website: www.igivetrees.com along with several organizations including Kids for Environmental & Social Action. Together, they were able to give 4,194 trees back to the rainforest last year, while supporting simple people who felt invisible to the outside world.
