Herbal Healing in the Wise Woman Tradition

Herbal Apprenticeship Circle

Picturephoto from http://www.morguefile.com/archive/display/54864
The 2016-2017 Herbal Apprenticeship Circle will open for enrollment in January, 2016.  Apprenticeship days begin in April, 2016.

Please read below for a description of this two-year herbal program.

Come and learn the ancient art of Herbal Medicine, based on the Wise Woman Tradition.  This Herbal Apprenticeship Circle is a hands-on, out in the fields, up-close-and-personal relationship with our green plant herbal allies.  The plants are our teachers, so you must be willing to learn from them with mindful introspection that brings insightful co-creation.

What is an Herbal Apprenticeship?

An apprenticeship is a ‘hands-on’ way of learning.  Historically, this is how herbalists and other health care practitioners learned their profession.

Consider our Herbal Apprenticeship Circle if you:
- are called to work with medicinal botanicals
- feel the pull to connect with our herbal allies on a deeper level
- yearn to work with the spirit of the green nations
- seek to expand your innate stewardship of our beautiful blue-green earth
- endeavor to make your own herbal plant medicine

Commitment

This is a limited enrollment opportunity, year by year, in a 2-year program.
The minimum commitment is one year at a time.

Each class builds on the previous one, so your Herbal Apprenticeship requires an active commitment and dedication to participating in the workshop days, practicing at home, attending the monthly conference calls, and being able to attend for the full scope of classes each year.
Working together with our green plant herbal allies, we create a mutually supportive community circle, so please be mindful of your circle-mates and responsible in your commitment to attend.

Classes run April through December
2016:  Apr 16, May 7, June 11, July 16, Jul 30, Aug 20,  Sept 17, Oct 15, Nov 12, Dec 10.

2017:  Dates TBA by January 30, 2017.

Curriculum
For the 2016 year, the ten-month Herbal Apprenticeship Circle includes the following topics: basic principles in herbal and alternative healing;  introduction to the Wise Woman Tradition of herbal medicine, including some western herbal medicine, Traditional Chinese Medicine and Ayurveda as appropriate; basic plant ID and harvesting; in-depth study of healing properties of approximately 45-50 medicinal botanicals; traditional and ethno-botanical history of herbal medicine; definitions and terminology; introduction to formulas; introduction to medicine making such as tinctures, vinegars, honey and salves.

Conference Calls
Our monthly conference call helps maintain our connection with our herbal allies as well as our circle-mates.  We use this time to check-in with our growing relationship with medicinal botanicals, to delve into more details about the plants we've worked with, and to ask and answer additional questions.  It also serves to strengthen our Herbal Apprenticeship Circle community as a whole.

Last Tuesday of each month, 9-10PM
2016 dates:  Apr 26, May 31, Jun 28,  Jul 26, Aug 30, Sep 27, Oct 25 Nov 29, Dec 27
